Ein entscheidendes Merkmal von Gigabit-Ethernet ist die gleichzeitige Nutzung aller vier Doppeladern zur Datenübertragung in beide Richtungen. Damit ist eine durchgängige Vernetzung vom Büro bis zur Maschine möglich.

Einige Switche unterstützen jedoch Gigabit nur auf einem oder zwei Ports – zumeist lediglich auf der optischen Seite. Im Industrial Ethernet standen bislang in Linientopologien dezentral keine Gigabit-Anschlüsse zur Verfügung.

Mit den beiden Gigabit-Switchen in 19“-Technik und für die Hutschienenmontage stellt eks Engel nun Lösungen vor, die Gigabit nicht nur auf der optischen, sondern auch auf der TX-Seite bereitstellen.

Für den Einsatz in Netzwerkschränken steht der modulare 19“ Gigabit-Switch mit bis zu 3 Slots zur Verfügung. Die Module dieses Switches sind Hot-Swappable. Die 8-Port Slot-Module integrieren bis zu 8x10/100/1000TX oder 8x1000SX-Ports für Multimode oder Singlemode. Darüber hinaus steht ein Modul mit 4x10/100/1000TX und 4xMini-GBIC zur Verfügung. Die 19“-Switche von eks Engel überzeugen zudem durch ein Management mit umfangreichen Funktionen. Als Option sind auch unmanaged Gigabit-Switche in 19“-Technik erhältlich. Die 19“ Gigabit-Switche eignen sich für den Einsatz im Temperaturbereich von 0°C bis +45°C. 

Für die Hutschienenmontage sind die kompakten Gigabit-Switche 6x10/100/1000 und COMBO (2x10/100/1000T oder 2x100/1000SFP) vorgesehen. Das umfassende Management dieser Geräte ermöglicht u.a. den Aufbau einer optischen Ringstruktur mit einer sehr schnellen Rekonfigurationszeit von unter 300ms. Die Hutschienen-Switche sind mit ihrem erweiterten Temperaturbereich von -40°C bis +75°C für den Einsatz im Außenbereich prädestiniert.

Neben den Gigabit-Switchen in 19“-Technik und für die Hutschiene bietet eks Engel  aus der DragonLine-Familie den 19“-Medienkonverter 10/100/1000 Base-TX zu 1000Base-SX/LX für die Konvertierung von Gigabit Ethernet auf Glasfaser an. 

Alle Systeme haben ein robustes Metallgehäuse und verfügen über eine hohe EMV-Verträglichkeit. Da die Lösungen teilweise mit redundanter Stromversorgung ausgestattet sind, bieten sie ein hohes Maß an Sicherheit im Betrieb.

An important feature of Gigabit Ethernet is the possibility of using all four twin wires for data transmission in both directions at the same time. This allows a general networking from the office to the machine.

Some switches, however, only support Gigabit at one or two ports - mostly at the optical side. Within Industrial Ethernet there haven’t been any Gigabit connectors in line topologies yet.
With the two Gigabit switches in 19’’ technology and for DIN rail mounting, eks Engel is now offering solutions which do not only provide Gigabit at the optical side, but also at the TX side.

The modular 19’’ Gigabit switch with up to three slots is available for the use in rack cabinets. The modules of the switch are hot-swappable. The 8 port slot modules contain up to 8x10/100/1000TX or 8x1000SX ports for multimode or singlemode. Furthermore, a module with 4x10/100/1000TX and 4xMini-GBIC is available. Moreover, the eks 19’’ switches are convincing due to their management with its comprehensive functions.

As an option, unmanaged 19’’ Gigabit switches are also available. The switches are suitable for applications within a temperature range between 0°C and 45°C.

The compact Gigabit switches 6x10/100/1000 and COMBO (2x10/100/1000T or 2x100/1000SFP) are designed for DIN rail mounting. The comprehensive management of these switches allows, amongst others, creating optical ring structures with a very fast reconfiguration time of less than 300ms. Due to their extended temperature range of -40°C to +75°C, the DIN rail switches are especially suitable for outdoor applications.

Besides the 19’’ Gigabit switches and those for DIN rail mounting, eks Engel also offers the 19’’ media converter 10/100/1000 Base TX to 1000Base-SX/LX of the DragonLine series for the conversion of Gigabit Ethernet to fiber optics.

All systems have a robust metal housing and high electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Since the solutions partly feature redundant power supply, they provide a high degree of security in service.
